Singles Party Themes

Singles events have become a great way to get out and meet local singles. From speed dating to bowling parties to cocktail parties, they've become all the rage. If you're looking for a fresh, new, fun way to meet singles though, try hosting your own singles party! It's a great way to have fun and meet local singles, including a possible new date!

  1. Pick a theme! Here are some great ideas for singles party themes:
    • 70's Disco Party
Get groovy with a 70's disco party theme! Have all singles come dressed in their best hippy attire from bell bottoms and platform shoes to maxi dresses and leisure suits. Get everyone active on the dance floor with disco music and a disco ball and strobe lighting. Add in some lava lamps here and there. Other entertainment can include fun TV shows or movies from the 70's as well as a 70's trivia game where guests are matched into teams. For food, have a fondue bar with different types of fondue dishes and plenty of dipping items. For dessert, try a tie dyed cake or cheesecake.

    • Famous People Throughout History
Each person that comes to the party must come dressed as a famous person from some point in history. You'll have fun discovering who everyone is and finding your own personal match. For instance, if you come as Juliet, you'll have to find your Romeo at the party! The great thing about this type of party theme is that you can mix it up based on your interests: famous movie couples, famous celebrity couples, etc. This party works especially well if everyone draws from a set list of famous couples so that you know everyone will have a match at the party.

    • Masquerade Party
Host an old-fashioned masquerade party where everyone comes wearing a mask. Classic masquerade parties are typically setup in a game-like fashion where guests are hidden and the point is to guess their identities. This style works a bit better if you know more of the people that are at the party, but it can still be a great party theme when you don't. Instead, guests can be instructed to create their own masks and other guests will have to guess to identify their masks. Or, just let everyone have free reign and instead let the masks provide a bit of a cover, allowing you to meet, mingle, and get to know other singles without the same initial pressure.

    • Rubix Cube Party
Specify in the invites that everyone that comes to the party must come wearing one item of clothing from each color that appears on a Rubix Cube. During the party, everyone has to mingle and exchange clothing pieces. By the end of the night, you've not only met and talked to many new people, but you will now be wearing everything in one single color. It's a fun ice breaking game that you'll have a blast with while meeting lots of new people.

    • Scavenger Hunt
Separate guests into groups when they arrive and provide each group with a list of items that they must find. After introductions and some food, everyone can head out into town for the actual scavenger hunt. Make sure that items overlap so that groups will meet up and mingle while on the hunt.

    • Twilight Party
Host a twilight party where you instruct all guests to come dressed as characters from the books and movies. Entertainment can include Twilight trivia with guests paired into teams. Everyone will have a great time guessing character costume and playing games. You can also have a Twilight movie viewing or marathon.

  2. Get the word out! Start getting the word out about your single party via sites like evite.com or with Facebook events. Invite your friends to invite their other singles friends as well. The fact that the guest list is formed through your network of friends is one of the best things about hosting your own party.
  3. Plan, plan, plan! Now comes the fun part. Enlist some close friends and start planning the little details. How far you go will all depend on the theme you've chosen.
  4. Have fun! It's party time! Have a good time mingling and meeting other new singles (and a potential new date).
