One Night, Part 2

Dayton Murray looked out the window of the Virgin Atlantic 747 as it was landing onto the London Heathrow Airport runway. It was rainy and dreary as usual. It did not help make the current conditions very nice. She gathered her carry on and dashed out of the plane as soon as there was space available to move.

According to her brother in law, David, her husband, Xorin Murray, had been in a bad car accident. Xorin was hit on the driver's side and for the last four days he had been in a coma. Dayton had tried to get the first flight out but flights were grounded due to bad weather in the area and she had to wait four grueling days to travel to him.

Looking for the baggage claim area she almost flew to get her luggage. She called David as soon as she was able to get herself together. He was picking her up and she was to call him right away when she landed. He was her life�line to Xorin at the moment and she needed to know everything as soon as possible.

David picked up on the first ring. "Hiya Sis!" he didn't waste time, he knew she wanted details. "He's in critical condition here but he's speaking and asking for you." He said with a small ray of hope in his voice.

"Thank GOD!" she exclaimed. Dayton nearly fell onto the floor with relief. "Where do I meet you"? She looked around as she walked outside to the passenger pick up area.

"I think I see you!" He exclaimed.

He caught sight of his sister-in-law. She was a short small framed woman with long brown hair and was wearing dark jeans and a long tan suede coat. Her normally smiling face was tired looking. "I see you!" He said.

"Oh there you are!" she said happily. Seeing the dark blue Ford Fiesta pull up in front of her made her so anxious. She wanted to get to Xorin as soon as possible.

David helped her with her bags and they were on their way to the hospital. He let her know that Xorin was in pretty bad shape, but at least he was out of harm's way for now. They said he was not able to see many people and they were only letting in family at this time.

When they arrived the nurse told them that Xorin was visiting with his parents and that they could go right in. When David and Dayton walked into the room, Xorin was sleeping. His mother, Lilly and father, Mark greeted her with a big hug. They hadn't seen her since they went to Xorin and Dayton's wedding in the States a few weeks prior.

"Bless him," Lilly said stroking her youngest son's arm as he lay in the bed. Nearly his whole right side was in a cast. His face was bruised pretty badly, which caught Dayton off guard at first. He also had a neck brace and his head was bandaged up. "He's been sleeping almost all day." She looked at her daughter in law who to her looked so tired. He's asked for you a lot today." She smiled.

"Apparently we don't exist to him at the moment" Mark joked and playfully nudged his daughter-in-law. He got up from his chair and took his wife's hand. "He's going to be just fine now." Mark nodded toward Dayton and winked at his wife.

"We'll come by in the morning then" Lilly said and gave Dayton a kiss goodbye.

"See you tomorrow." Mark said as he escorted Lilly out of the room.

"I'm staying here tonight" She told David as she sat to the left side of her husband in the chair his mother once sat. "I am not leaving him until he's ready to come home.

"Are you sure?" David said. "He's not much for conversation. And Kiley and I have lots of room at our place. You know you are welcome there."

"I am not leaving him. You can go home when you want." she said resting her head on Xorin's arm. She gave it a soft kiss. She missed him so much and needed to be alone with him.

"Alright," David paused as he checked his watch. "I will bring Kiley and Danika to see you tomorrow." David gave her a kiss on the top of her head and walked out the door. Kiley, his fianc� and daughter, Danika who was two, would be waiting at home for him. She had not yet met Danika but had seen photos of her. So tomorrow would be a better time for that. Dayton would be well rested and able to think more clearly.

Dayton finally was able to get a good look at her husband. She nearly broke down in tears. Xorin was asleep. It was nearly 10:00PM and she had no intention to wake him. She stood up and planted a kiss on the skin of his face that was not covered up. She then made herself comfortable in the chair while doctors did a check up on him for the night. They told her that he had been very lucky and the broken bones would heal. Hi vision may be blurred for some time in his right eye, but he was sure to recover fully. They let her know that the driver of the other vehicle was also very lucky and was only paralyzed from the waist down. Dayton half wanted more for the other driver but quickly shrugged that off. She was just glad that her husband who she loved so much was alive and getting better.

Dayton fell asleep shortly after the doctors left the room. The chair was not comfortable but she needed to be near Xorin. She never wanted to be away from him again. Xorin woke up from time to time saying her name and she'd touch his arm. She wasn't sure if he knew she was there, but she wanted to reassure him he was not alone.

The morning nurse woke them both by opening the curtains. She prepared Xorin's IV and explained to Dayton that if they needed anything to call right away. Xorin woke up during the check up and tried to smile when his green eyes (which were surrounded by black and blue bruises) met her brown eyes.

"Day"! he mumbled. He reached for her with his left hand.

She took his hand and kissed it. "I am right here sweetheart" she said.

He squeezed her hand tightly, thinking she might be a dream.

"It's really me Xorin" she reassured him and moved to kiss his face. "I am not going anywhere. And don't you go anywhere ever again where I can't go." She started to cry. She was able to show him how much she was afraid.

"Never," he mumbled. He pulled her close to him and they hugged for a long time.

The nurse finished dressing certain wounds. "You two are so sweet." She said and walked away with a little sniffle.

Xorin was trying to stay up despite the medication. He wanted to spend as much time awake as he could to be with Dayton. "I am not going anywhere I promise." she told him. "I am not leaving you until you get out of here. And you WILL be getting out of here" she said to him as he fussed in a mumbled way to not have any pain medication. "I will go downstairs for a little while you are asleep to see Kylie and meet Danika. But they can't stay long."

He gave her a look that would have made a sad face if he could make it. His face was bandaged up to his nose. There was a space to see his mouth and nose so he could breathe. He couldn't make any expressions because his face was to swollen.

"I will be back when you wake up silly" she said with a smile. "I promise to stay until you fall asleep. And when you wake up, I'll see about getting you something like soup. Okay?"

He squeezed her hand over the thought of soup.

After Xorin fell asleep she went downstairs to meet her beautiful new niece, Danika who brought a flower for her Uncle Xorin and a flower for Dayton too! The little girl was beautiful. She had David's blue eyes and her mother's curly dark brown hair and dimples. Kylie was a tall and beautiful woman with dark brown hair and eyes and a small figure. She was very sweet and the two women got along right away. Danika had had the chicken pox when Xorin and Dayton remarried so they were not able to make the long trip to the States for the wedding.

After the nice visit Dayton came back upstairs and sat with Xorin until his parents came. Xorin was still asleep so they all had watched television and talked until Xorin woke up. His mother sat in Dayton's spot for a while. Xorin was so much happier that Dayton showed up. He was trying to speak and show off more. The doctors had to come in twice to calm him down.

Days turned into weeks and Xorin got better. Soon he was able to get the head bandages off and his arm was out of a sling. By six weeks he was able to go home for sure. The most he left the hospital with was a broken leg and broken arm. There was no trauma to his brain and he'd be in a cast for a little longer on both limbs. It truly was a miracle! His face was not so bruised up. He still was a little swollen but he was able to go home now. He was eating solid foods as long as they were soft until his face healed a little more.

When they arrived at their new home that Xorin had been preparing for them before the accident, Dayton got busy arranging things so that the temporary wheel chair that Xorin would use would fit in the house.

"I am not using it the whole time" Xorin gave her his beautiful smile. She loved that she could see it now.

"I just want you to be comfortable." she said trying to get him to sit down in the living room. The two-story home was completely furnished and pretty much ready to live in.

They toured the new house together, him hopping around, and refusing any help. He relished in her squeals of delight when she noticed little touches he made to the house that he knew she would like.

They stood in the doorway of an empty room that was the smallest of the three bedrooms in the house. The walls were blank and the only thing in it was a small dark brown wooden wardrobe, a small table and a big old comfy looking chair. The chair didn't seem to fit anywhere at the moment so it was put by the window. The carpet was blue like the rest of the house and brand new. They walked inside and she watched him as he propped himself up against the chair near the window, half looking out the window and half looking at her. She was so beautiful and he was so proud that he�d made her his wife again.

"So, we can put anything we want in here?" he asked smiling. "Maybe it could be a game room, or some kind of library, or my own footie room?" his eyes light up at the though. "Yeah, everything footie.. I like that!"

She walked over to him, took him by the hand, and they sat in the big comfy chair by the window. He took her in his arms and she slid off the arm of the chair where she'd been sitting. They snuggled for a while and sat in silence. How lucky they were that he was alright and they could be together. She took a deep breath and decided to tell him her secret. Now was the perfect time.

"Or, this could be.. you know, a baby's room" she said, her eyes looking at his lovingly.

"Oh we have time to discuss what to do with it, don't we?" he asked stroking her face and kissing her on the lips softly. He really liked the idea of his own football room.

She took his hand and placed it on her stomach. "According to Dr. Kline at the hospital we have about 7 more months."

"Dr. Kline"?! He gasped. "So that's what you were seeing him about when I was having my therapy"! He hugged her as tight as he could. He then stopped and touched her stomach again." You clever thing, you!" he said and kissed her hard. His eyes sparkled. "We're having a baby!" He couldn't believe this news.

"Yes Mr. Murray, we are having a baby." Dayton kissed him back. She was so excited to tell him the good news. After all that had happened they were finally in the right place. "So you are okay with this being a baby room then?" She joked.

"Our baby's room" he said still amazed at the news. "Yes I am very good with that." He hugged her and kissed her again for a long time. They sat there in the room in the chair for hours, enjoying the company of each other.

After a long silence and as the sun was setting making the white walled room pink and rose colored, he kissed her on the top of her head and slid his free hand over her left arm. "A baby. Wow!" he paused for a moment then said "I hope it's a boy."
