They're delicious.
They're a staple that you can't go wrong with.
They're readily available and easy to find, making them great for last minute shoppers.
They're generally less expensive than other chocolate gifts.
They're an aphrodisiac!

Cons
They've become a cliche gift.
They're not home-made or unique.

The practice of giving chocolate on Valentine's Day has been around since the 1800's. Cadbury, the first company to create chocolate candies as we know them today, was also the first company to market them in heart-shaped boxes for Valentine's Day. These romantic boxes of chocolate gained in popularity and became one of the most popular gifts for both men and women on Valentine's Day. It's not surprising that they're a go-to romantic gift though, as they're heavily marketed by candy companies and appear on the shelves of every store during the month of February (next to the stuffed bears, of course).

Chocolate Dipped Strawberries

Pros
They're delicioius!
They're unique and memorable.
They're sexy.
They pair well with champagne.
You can make them at home, giving them that romantic touch.
They could be cheaper if made at home.
They're a double aphrodisiac!

Cons
They're not readily available - you either have to order them or make them.
They're not really an option for last minute shoppers.
If you're ordering online, you have to order in advance due to longer processing times.

With the idea of chocolate being a requisite Valentine's Day gift, modern day companies created new twists on this old favorite such as chocolate cake pops and chocolate truffles. One of the most unique though is the hand-dipped chocolate covered strawberry. Strawberries are considered the fruit of love, and for good reason. For starters, this plump red fruit is the perfect color and shaped somewhat like a heart. Plus, they're sweet, with a taste that lingers on your tongue. Strawberries are sexy and perfect for feeding one another, but most importantly for Valentine's Day, strawberries are an aphrodisiac and when dipped in delicious chocolate, a double aphrodisiac!
