Romantic August Holidays

It's the dog days of summer, but August is chock full of cool romantic holidays for you and your sweetie to celebrate.

Celebrate your girlfriend today by surprising her with a dozen roses at work or a special dinner date. Put a blindfold on her and tell her that your final destination is a surprise and have a candle lit dinner set up under the stars.

Your spouse or boyfriend/girlfriend is also your best friend. Spend friendship day reconnecting as friends and do something fun together today. Head to a local water park or cool down at a movie theater and just have fun.

Celebrated on the 1st Sunday in August, today is all about forgiveness. If you've been arguing, today's the day to suck it up and forgive each other.

Founded in 2003 by undergarment company, FreshPair.com, this holiday celebrates you and your intimates. This year, spend the day with your sweetie in your skivvies, because, as the founders note, clothes are overrated!

Everything is better in pairs, so instead of just pampering yourself, make it a day of pampering each other! Book spa treatments such as a couple's massage and spending the afternoon just relaxing together as you get pampered. Pick up some massage oils, bubble baths, and candles, and spend the evening pampering one another with massages and a romantic bath for two.

So, we're not in China, but you can still celebrate. Go out for Chinese food together and exchange gifts. Want to make it really special? Prepare ahead of time and create your own fortune cookies filled with romantic messages. Buy a bunch of fortune cookies and use tweezers to pull out the messages, then put new ones inside. Note: The actual day of Chinese Valentine's Day varies from year to year as it is celebrated on the 7th day of the 7th lunar month in the Chinese calendar.

If you've never been to a lighthouse, you're missing out. Visit one at dusk and bring along a picnic and a bottle of wine. You can watch the sun set over the water together.

You could sit around a fire pit in your backyard feeding each other s' mores under the stars. If you want to go a step further, go camping for the weekend and you'll have plenty of time to enjoy those sensational s' mores, plus a little extra romance in a tent in the great outdoors.

Nothing warms the heart like a smile. During the second week in August, put aside your differences and forget arguing. Put aside all disagreements and give each other a smile and an 'I Love You'.

Time to get back to the basics. The grand gestures are always appreciated, but it's the little things that really build a romantic relationship. Stop rushing around and give each other a hug and a kiss. Hold hands as you're walking and give your partner a wink at the dinner table.

It's been a busy summer, so take the day off and spend it together! Book a couple's massage and go out for a romantic, leisurely lunch.

An intimate picnic lunch together is one the simplest, yet most romantic dates. This month, make an effort to picnic together. Skip out of work early one day and meet for a rendezvous in a park or spend a leisurely Saturday afternoon at beach, swimming, lounging, and picnic-ing together. For something different, make it a midnight picnic with wine and dessert, then lay out stargazing together.
