Romantic Ideas for Long Distance Relationships
Any relationship takes work, but a long distance relationship takes extra work. Not being able to see one another on a regular basis can take a toll on your relationship little by little. With the help of you, our visitors, we've come up with several ways to keep the romance alive in a long distance relationship. If you have a romantic idea that we don't have listed, submit it here.
While at work, get on an Instant Messenger program (AIM, Yahoo! Messenger, or MSN Messenger) and chat throughout the day -- or at least during your lunch hour.
Invest in a set of webcams! Most IM programs now let you do video chat!
Send romantic email messages. Fill your emails with words love, your thoughts, feelings, etc. Send fantasy emails with details on what you'll do when you're together (as innocent or as sexy as you want to make them!). Or, if you're feeling rather sexy, check out HoochyMail.com where you can send customized email sexy that range from sexy to x-rated.
Go old fashioned and write an actual letter to your sweetie. Before you put it in the envelope, add a spritz of perfume or cologne to the paper.
Send her flowers just because. Flowers on your anniversary or a holiday are wonderful, but getting flowers for no reason at all -- simply because you love her -- is even more romantic. If you'd rather not send flowers, send a flowering plant. Include a note which tells her that like the plant, your continues to grow.
Create your own love blogs using MySpace, WordPress, or Typepad. Each day post a message for him/her to read. Add photos, clipart, videos, and sound clips for a more interactive love blog.
Send him a care package. Include some of his favorite baked goods, a box of candy, and other things to remind him of you and your relationships.
Give them sweet dreams of you with a pillow case that you've spritzed with your perfume or cologne.
Create a customized calendar that includes photos of the two of you for each month of the year along with special dates marked throughout the year. Check out Shutterfly to create your calendar.
Have a pizza -- or other favorite food -- delivered to them at home and have a 'dinner' date together over the phone.
Take advantage of free ecards and send them along with a romantic message each day. The advantage of ecards are that you can schedule them ahead of time. Each week, pick out a few and have them sent on certain days of the week. Include a love quote or a short 1-2 sentence message telling him/her how you're feeling.
Put pen to paper and write your own love poem. Check out some of the classics for inspiration.
Start a flickr account and update with a 'daily picture' each day. That way you 'see' each other each day.
Schedule daily calls. Even if they're only for a few moments, it's a good feeling to hear your partner's voice.
Leave voice messages when you know your partner won't be around to answer the phone. A short and sweet love message will bring a smile to his or her face.
Send romantic text messages. A simple 'I Love You' will do the trick or check out our collection of romantic text message samples.
Play together! You can play games on Yahoo! Games or Pogo and have a little fun together.
Countdown to your next visit. Remember those red and green paper chains you made to countdown to Christmas as a child? Do the same for your sweetie by getting some red construction paper and create a classic countdown chain. If you want to do something a little more 'adult', create a countdown calendar that includes a sweet -- or sexy -- love note for them to open each day.
Burn a cd of songs that remind you of your sweetie or your relationship and send it to them along with brief message telling them why you included each song.
Send her a loveable, cuddly teddy bear and tell her it will keep her company until you're together again. The Love Bandit Bear from Vermont Teddy Bears will steal her heart and make you feel close.

Save up and send her an airplane ticket out of the blue or fly in to visit unannounced if work allows. That will be the best gift you could give.

me and my partner try to keep our relationship fresh by trying different sexual things. we take saucy pictures and show them to each other they usually make us really hot and turned on and we end up having fun. we either do descriptions of what we are doing or what we would do, but i would suggest roleplay, its a lot of fun and we always feel closer afterwards. im only 17 but i like the romantic things to, we watch films at the same time and eat the same things, that always helps when we are feeling down about being apart. Hope that helps
