The cusp is basically the transition zone where a planet changes from one sign to the next. Your official zodiac sign is defined specifically by where the sun is positioned on your birth date. So, if you were born on July 22, then your sign is Cancer. Because you were on the cusp of Leo though, you're likely to have a few of the Leo traits mixed in. Astrologers state that the effects of being on the cusp are stronger if your birth date lies at the end of your official zodiac sign rather than at the beginning.

A: In Astrology, the new year begins at the Spring Equinox on March 21st, which is why you see the first zodiac sign represented as Aries.
